Too Late

When is it ok to stop hoping for a miracle?
While he was still speaking, some people came from the leader's house to say, 'Your daughter is dead. Why trouble the teacher any further?' But overhearing what they said, Jesus said to the leader of the synagogue, 'Do not fear, only believe.' - Mark 5:35-36
In today's reading, word comes to Jairus that his daughter is dead, and so there is no reason to bother Jesus. It is too late.
But Jesus tells him the time has not come to stop believing.
Given the fact that Jesus preached a message of repentance, warning people that the time has come for them to turn back to God, and face judgment, you would think he wouldn't bother to raise someone from the dead.
There must be something important for all of us to do while we are here, something Jesus knows we are designed for and in need of doing or being.
God wouldn't bother to come among us to tell us to turn back to Him, unless there was something special we would be missing without doing that.
Jairus' daughter needed a chance to be that special force in the world.
The message for us, I think, is two-fold. One is that we have to believe, and believe so much that we do away with all fear. We cannot truly live until we believe away the fear.
The second is that we, like the little girl Jesus calls back to life, need to get up and live.
Whatever is holding us back needs to be thrown away and we have to answer the call to get up and be who we were meant to be.
If we are not yet dead, but only sleeping, as Jesus says about Jairus' daughter, then we need to wake up and be fully alive.
There is no better time than right now.
So, let's get up and be.
More to come...
