Unfractured

There is nothing like taking a good rest. Especially after a good fall, that is.
Therefore, while the promise of entering his rest is still open, let us take care that none of you should seem to have failed to reach it.- Hebrews 4:1
Today is the day in the Easter weekend when we feel like we have fallen and cannot get up. It is the day between death and resurrection, between the end of a promise and the beginning of a new beginning beyond all belief.
So, it is only fitting, I guess, that I would spend the day in the emergency room.
In churches all over the world, this day is a day of preparation for Easter, and that means decorating. My wife was doing just than, when she took a fall and fractured her patella. Tonight she is resting, her leg immobilized.
It is a hell of a way to take a break. But in a way, it is just what the letter to the Hebrews is telling us. Do not believe you have failed to achieve the goal. It is here for all to grasp.
Whether we fall or not, we are saved. Our Lord and Savior has locked us in for salvation. All we need to do is reach for it.
Now, that sounds contrary to the way we see the world. People need to be good to gain rewards in the afterlife, we say.
But all we need to be is willing to turn back to God. There is time. We do not have to wait until we have a fall to think of our future. We can stop, take a moment now, and offer all our failures up to God.
We have not yet failed to reach that eternal rest. It is waiting for us, and no matter how fractured our lives are, we can put the pieces back together.
Tonight, I will attend the Easter Vigil without my wife by my side, but we will still celebrate together, and that is what this day is all about. We can unfracture our lives and celebrate.
Happy Easter.
More to come...
