When God Speaks

Sometimes God answers our prayers in ways we don't expect.
Then the Lord answered Job out of the whirlwind: ‘Who is this that darkens counsel by words without knowledge? Gird up your loins like a man, I will question you, and you shall declare to me. ‘Where were you when I laid the foundation of the earth? Tell me, if you have understanding. Who determined its measurements surely you know! Or who stretched the line upon it? On what were its bases sunk, or who laid its cornerstone when the morning stars sang together and all the heavenly beings shouted for joy? - Job 38:1-7
After all his complaining that God will not give him the answer he seeks, God finally decides to speak to him. And instead of giving him an explanation, God yells at him.
Why should Job be surprised by that?
This is God he is challenging, and God lets him know just how mighty and powerful He is. Where were you, he asks?
Sometimes we get demanding like Job, expecting God to give us the answers we seek. We want to know why bad things happen to us, when we feel we don't deserve them, but those things may seem petty in the grand picture.
I know it sounds like God doesn't care, and I know that isn't true. He sent his son to prove that to us. God does care and He wants us to trust in Him. We are the ones who are impatient.
When God decides to speak to us, we need to show respect. He is not our peer, nor is He our servant, even though Jesus said the one who serves is greatest in Heaven.
Surely all of us at one time or another have experienced what Job did, when we challenged authority and were put in our place. The answers we seek could be harshly delivered. It should be expected.
Life is tough. We don't always get what we want.
But if we trust in God, and know that He hears us and loves us, we will eventually hear Him.
More to come...
