Why Me?

What makes us worth saving?
“Very truly, I tell you, we speak of what we know and testify to what we have seen; yet you do not receive our testimony. If I have told you about earthly things and you do not believe, how can you believe if I tell you about heavenly things? No one has ascended into heaven except the one who descended from heaven, the Son of Man. And just as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, so must the Son of Man be lifted up, that whoever believes in him may have eternal life. “For God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, so that everyone who believes in him may not perish but may have eternal life. “Indeed, God did not send the Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him. - John 3:11-17
Today's Gospel reading from John includes the verse most often quoted by evangelicals, "For God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, so that everyone who believes in him may not perish but may have eternal life."
It makes me wonder why.
What makes me so special that God cares if I am saved?
I wonder if from the beginning, all God wanted was to be a part of our lives, and we threw that away.
Salvation, then, is a way for us to bring God back into our lives, where He longs to be. If it wasn't so important to Him that we want Him in our lives, would he have gone through the trouble to become one of us, one with us?
Whatever pulls us away form God, Jesus says we can set aside and return to communion with Him.
He is not out to punish us for our sins, but to redeem us from living in the guilt of them.
Wow!
That doesn't mean we get to do as we please, but it does mean we should try to do what pleases Him.
And what pleases God is having us want Him in our lives.
It is that simple.
So, let us invite Him in. He is waiting for our call.
More to come...
