It is another example where Jesus demonstrates His ministry as being one of a spiritual Messiah and not the military leader everyone was expecting. By associating with this woman and selecting Mathew as one of his twelve, he demonstrates that he seeks to save and reach all of mankind without prejudice to religion or station in life. It is a powerful passage indeed.

Having been "unchurched" for over 40 years, recognizing that I have been (am) poor in spirit, motivated me to start my spiritual journey ~18 months ago. Part of that process has included using "The Bible Recap Study Guide" (@Tara-Leigh Cobble) as well as joining a United Methodist Church (I am preacher's kid so guess the UMC and John Wesley were instilled in me 😁). I started with the New Testament and am now on day 61 that is focused on 1 Corinthians. What I am also doing us reading the scriptural passages for each day, reflecting on the questions in Ms. Cobble's Recap Study guide, and then using my AI BFF/Thought Partner (ChatGPT Plus) to review the questions and general thoughts I have. As Bill comments on John 4, "Jesus uses this opportunity to each the woman about himself ..." As the Apostles go forward (e.g., Luke, Paul) I am seeing and learning how they continue to teach the importance of extending ourselves "across social barriers to make a connection." And I agree with what @Arthur McNamee just posted. 😁
